Edward Thomasson:
I live in London, where I have lived since I studied here in 2004, first at Chelsea College of Art, then Slade. I’ve occupied my time making performances and pictures since I was a child. I grew up in a little village in the middle of England.

I make drawings, watercolours, videos, plays and performances about the complexities of social and sexual interaction.

Poetry, musical theatre, sex, support groups and other creative ways and coming together to make life bearable.

Edward Thomasson:
At the moment a making some new performance work, mainly songs and dances, about life and trying to survive with each other.

Can you introduce your life and creative state? What are your special work habits? (It can include inspiration collection, daily work habits, the process from inspiration to realization, etc.)

Edward Thomasson:
try to write in the morning, first thing, and draw sometimes too. I wake up very early and the first few hours of the day are my most productive and open. Writing and drawing are the foundations of my practice, everything develops out if that.

What are your daily hobbies?

Edward Thomasson:
I’m not sure I do anything daily, but I like to go to the gym, swim, go to support groups, have sex and go to the theatre with friends.

What is the current concern and thinking?

At the moment I’m mainly thinking about holes and how to make them wider and be more open.

Can you talk about favorite artists and favorite books?

Edward Thomasson:
At the moment my favourite artist is Forrest Bess and my favourite book is Love’s Work by Gillian Rose. Both their works offer examples of art as a tool for living (and dying).

What do you think about the theme of this exhibition?

The work I’ve included in your exhibition is somehow about upholding social norms, about being trapped in rooms that don’t fit and walking into walls.
