Introduction:

"The Branch Game" is an exhibition of Si Jiayi's recent work that runs from 19 August to 6 September. The exhibition presents the discussion and experimentation with the relationship between words and play and nature observation. "Playgrounds have always been an important presence in the urban fabric, and the exhibition attempts to reconstruct them in space, exploring the relationship between play and the development of social bonds, the construction of systems, and personal links.

Nowadays, it is difficult to locate a free and open playground in the city. The playground has evolved into a highly commercialized and controlled (particularly for safety) locus, creating a paradox between safety and freedom. It no longer serves as the 'connective threshold’ that holds the city and humanity together, and is also losing its creative vitality. Playgrounds appear to be vanishing in our cities.

In this typography project, we deconstruct the type and change them into shattered fragments to recreate various new 'playgrounds'. We may redefine the playground and restore its core character, free of functionalism and risk aversion, and link it with nature, the city, and the person through this activity. We bring the creative and free personal expression that play provides to a world beyond play, personalizing the functional world and discovering a utopian fantasy of a freer world through play with nature and investigate the distinctions between type as a sign, line, shape, and even natural things. It's free to play!
