Introduction:

La Nuit et la forêt brings together various artists’ exploration of time, woods, plants within which those spiritual nature and intimacy lie intangible substances. Nature, in artists’ eyes, is appropriated by ideology and perception, being rendered and transformed through a subjective consciousness and production of meaning.

Nature has long been a system of mutual effects, a place of congregation of relationships. On the other hand, it conveys in deliberate moments of our daily life and self-reflection. La Nuit et la forêt will take you from ‘Plants and walking in nature to ‘Forest and Religion’, continuing with ‘Family night time’ to ‘Intimacy at night’. The exhibition attempts to encourage a new dialogue to take hold between individuals and nature. The conversations extend further within assorted artworks in an open space. The artist's personal experiences introduce us to different perspectives of viewing nature, as well as reflections of individuals. The objective approaches to the self and the outside invite us to re-regard the environment that is beyond us and narratives told.

1.Plants and walking in nature

Artists: Jiayi Si, Yifan Wang, QindiHu, yiwen

The moment preserved by the image is related to the experience of the present self. It revolves around the return to the original feeling given to us by nature. All the plants witnessed when we are walking along with our mobilized senses are constructed in a sequence and unfold with lightness. One begins to appreciate the possibility that an image could be a plant – one that needs earth and sky, substance and form. Images discovered by men evolve slowly, painfully. "A new image costs humanity as much labor as a new characteristic cost a plant.”

2. Forest and Religion

Artists: Rita Silva, Su An

The divinity of nature and the subjectivity of man correspond to the opposing relationship in self-understanding. It establishes a connection with the world from worshiping nature to drawing away from the self. This intentional connection fills the discussion itself with scrutiny and reflection. A more narrative-centered perspective traces the source of the objective experience and deconstructs the "I" in memory. The artists’ work releases "nature" from confinement between matter and imagination and places it in a spiritual realm to recount.

3. Family night time

Artists: Ruijing Ge, Wenxuan Wang

Explore the family, reality, and body from the perspective of personal continuity. It also stipulates a primitive type of internal relationship and a model of coexistence, which not only originates from the physical sense, but also enters the relationship with the world, redraws the outline of human struggle as an emotional subject, and discovers oneself in the experience as well as thinking of the connection between the self and society.

4.Intimacy at night

Artists: Weiteng Niu, Lidan Yang, James Wilde, Daniel John Bracken,Weilian Zou, Xiner Xu, Bowei Yang

In the process of exploring self-identity and intimacy, the individual identity is constantly being constructed. Hidden in the chaotic temperament of the night are the marginal, questioning, and uneasy characteristics of the self. The seeking of stability and identification in a symbolic space remains far away from traditional bonds
